Archive for April 2010
March was a month of finals, championships and a chance to wind the season down after the Olympics. The U.S. Ski Team got a tour of the East coast that started in Stowe, VT where we did some pre-noram final training on some spring snow. We then moved to Burke, VT for the last noram super G of the 2010 season. The super combine that was planned got cancelled due to warm spring weather and rain but I came away, regardless of the weather, with a super combine world cup spot for next season. We then packed our bags and drove to Waterville Valley, NH for the technical side of noram finals. It was another warm weekend but at least the rain held off and I ended up third in the overall noram standings for the 2009-2010 season along with a goggle tan!! Then, continuing the tour, we moved to Lake Placid, NY for the U.S. Alpine National Championship. Surrounded by stars like Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso and battling tough snow conditions typical of the East coast, I managed to take home the combine national title. It was a great accomplishment for me that I hope marks my all around skiing ability by showing my potential in the speed events as well as slalom. Our last stop on the East coast was, OF COURSE, the Cochran Slalom in Vermont. The mountain is owned my the legendary Cochran family and although I hiked and ended up last after first run, I felt the love of the sport from everyone at the hill and it was an honor to be there!
